    ABOUT SHELBY YOUTH SPORTS

Shelby Youth Sports, or SYS, is a non-profit community based youth sports athletic association comprised of several member areas located across the Mid-South area.  We currently provide three sports through these areas:

CHEERLEADING, TRACK & FIELD, and FOOTBALL.

SYS is different than most other organizations in that we are governed by a board of directors comprised of representatives of each participating area and an executive board.  The area representatives set rules, policies and guidelines for the sports and management of the association.  The executive board is responsible for the administration of these rules, as well as the day-to-day operations of SYS.  We think this creates a great organization;  one that is reactive to the changing needs of our most important component...

THE YOUTH PARTICIPANTS!

As condition of association membership, each area offers program services in Track & Field, Cheerleading and Football to the youth located within the local area's physical territories.  SYS assigns boundaries to areas in order to stabilize each member area's participant base.  In addition to program service requirements, each area must abide by and adhere to the SYS Constitution,

By-Laws, and Code of Ethics.

Shelby Youth Sports, is one of the largest providers of community based after-school sports programs in the Mid-South.

MEMBER AREAS & AREA ADMINISTRATION

Shelby Youth Sports is currently comprised of fourteen (14) member areas.  They are:

Area administration is achieved by the election of a volunteer to act as that area's Area Director, or "AD".  This individual is elected by the parent's of the local area's participants to a two (2) year term and serves on the SYS Board of Directors as the elected representative for that his/her area at SYS board meetings. It is the job of the Area Director to insure that the area he/she is representing follows the constitution, by-laws, and code of ethics of Shelby Youth Sports.  The Area Director is also responsible for appointing, as well as dismissing Sport directors, Coaches and Sponsors.

BOOSTER CLUBS

Member area booster clubs provide organization and funding at the local area level and are responsible for all local member area funds.  These funds are primarily for, but not limited to, the purchase of uniforms, trophies and the day-to-day business operations of the area.  Their operation is still governed by the articles mentioned above and the Area Director.
